MY Parliament took its first flight on 27th September 2014 at VishwaYuvak Kendra (International Youth Centre), New Delhi.This two-day event witnessed intense policy debates on FDI in retail and bills of nationalimportance such as the Lokpal Bill, Food Security Bill, and Protection of Women againstSexual Harassment at Workplace Bill. This event saw participation of around 150participants from across the country.
IIM Lucknow :Many of us are inhibited by the technicalities of the budget session that take place everyyear. We, as citizens are often unable to participate in the making of our country’s budgeteven when we are important stakeholders of the economy. Keeping this very visible gapin mind, MY Parliament has conducted simulated budget sessions for two consecutiveyears, the first one in 2015 followed by the session in 2016, with young representativesfrom all over the country.
The policy workshops are conducted primarily with the aim to bridge the gap inunderstanding policy issues. The workshops held at IIT Delhi and IIT Mumbai were ahuge success and saw the participation of more than 100 candidates. Such workshops areconducted in partnership with top think tanks and policy research institutions like PRSLegislative, Center for Civil Society, and CBGA (Centre for Budget and GovernanceAccountability).
The MY Parliament Fellowship 2015 was an opportunity for promising graduates andyoung working professionals to engage themselves in the policy making process andcontribute to a better India. The four-month long holistic understanding and experientiallearning programme in governance & public policy was attended by 25 fellows and wasunder the guidance of various parliamentarians, mentors and experts from the field ofpublic policy. The fellowship helped in creating engaged and sensitized citizens in theform of MYP Fellows who would be now be taking up various projects in thedevelopment arena. Many of them have joined research cells with parliamentarians andare working towards a brighter democracy.
This is a fledgling idea started by My Parliament since 2016. Our selected interns get tolearn the basics of policy making and help carry out research work that will aid thesmooth running of sessions. We offer a comprehensive learning experience ingovernance, enabling our interns to directly or indirectly engage with members ofparliament.
Three-day simulation of Monsoon Session of Indian Parliament was called upon in New Delhi where more than 100 young minds engaged in the discussions around issues of national importance. The Monsoon Session simulation at MY Parliament was unfolded in a format similar to the Lok Sabha. A series of workshops, training sessions, discussions as a part of a month-long awareness campaign were conducted in partnership with civil society organizations and academia.
Weekly Blog Competition: To encourage budding minds to keep their grey cells churning and help them voice their opinions on a larger formal platform, we are have started the idea of a weekly blogcompetition. These competitions are a means to energize young citizens into informeddebates and discussions on policy matters, help them decide the pros and cons of anissue and determine an appropriate response as an engaged citizen.
6 weeks, 6 interns and 6 mentors: An online opportunity for youth to engage themselves in real time research and analysisof the issues of national importance. After going through rigorous selection process,these selected interns from all across the country, get a chance to work on the allottedprojects and get their articles and research papers published online.
